I recently got a NETGEAR SPH101 wifi phone and wanted to share my experience with it.   We don't sell these phones on ebay, so I have nothing to gain by speaking highly of it in this guide, but I love mine!    Wish I could get a great deal on them and I would sell them in a second!     Even if we can't yet find them cheap enough to sell them on ebay, at least we can save money on our own phone bill to help keep our costs down, so we can give our buyers even better SuperGoodDeals!    :-)


First of all, you need to have a SKYPE account for service.   If you don't, you can sign up as soon as you get the phone and turn it on. 


This phone took about 5 minutes to figure out how to use, the manual is really easy to follow.  SKYPE is free for SKYPE TO SKYPE calls, and if you want to make SKYPE to PHONE calls, you can call most destinations in the world for just pennies a minute and if you sign up for a SKYPEOUT plan in the USA, it is only $29.95 FOR A WHOLE YEAR for unlimited calls to the USA and Canada.   That is a really great deal.  For less than $2.50 per month you can call as much as you want.  When is the last time you saw UNLIMITED LONG DISTANCE advertised for $2.50 per month? :-)

Now, to make your phone even MORE useful, you can get SKYPEIN.  The cost is only $60 per year, but there is a really cool way to CUT THIS IN HALF, so you can get EVERYTHING SKYPE offers for just $66 per year (more on that in a minute).   In a matter of minutes, you can have a real working INCOMING telephone number that YOU PICK out and you can even pick the country and area code you want the number to originate from.   So if you have friends, family or customers in the UK, they can call you locally  where THEY ARE and your phone will ring where you are, costing you NOTHING EXTRA.

-unlimited FREE calls outgoing to REAL phones, both landline and cell #'s in the USA and Canada
-FREE voicemail for a year
-unlimted incoming calls on your SKYPEIN number.


So for $66 per year, instead of $50 or more per month from the local phone company, you get ALL THIS STUFF.




NOW, here is where your NETGEAR SPH101 phone comes in.......


You can access all of this from your computer, sure, but now you take along this tiny phone, the size of a cell phone and get it all WITHOUT your computer, anywhere you go!   To work, on vacation, to your bedroom, even while walking the dogs or EVEN WHILE DRIVING (be sure to use a handsfree device if YOU are driving, though).

One other neat little trick you can perform, is this NETGEAR SPH101 phone can change its number or can even be lent to a friend who can change it to their number instantly and then back to your number.    You can log out as one user and in again as another user.   When is the last time you could tell your cell phone to be a friend's telephone number today and then your cell phone again later today or tomorrow?   This is SO useful!

I am not throwing away my cell phone just yet, but I can tell you this, I will be carrying both my cell phone and my wifi phone with me, so I can cut WAY DOWN on those cell phone minutes!    .....and within my house and when walking my dogs around the neighborhood, I no longer have to run up a long distance bill.   All my calls are free!     And I now make myself even more accessible to my friends, family and ebay buyers!       They can use my SKYPE ID or my regular telephone number from SKYPEIN, BOTH of which will ring right on my NETGEAR SPH101 phone AND my computer of course!

If you decide to buy this NETGEAR SPH101 phone, be sure to look out for the $50 rebate they are offering and shop for the best deal.   They seem to be out there for around $100 - $150, but you may be able to snatch it up a lot cheaper right here on ebay.
