Nemadji Art Pottery~USEFUL Information that Makes it Very Special!
I Have Collected Pottery for OVER 4 Decades.
NEMADJI Pottery Could Always Be Found Fairly CHEAP...So I Have ALOT of it.
Most Pieces are SMALL...the Larger Pieces are Worth MORE $$.
Small Pieces are ALSO MORE COMMON.
BUT....WHAT MAKES THEM SPECIAL...IS This...that I Know ALOT of You Do Not Even Know About.
The Exterior of a NEMADJI Piece is Flat...Matte.....ACTUALLY it Has NO GLAZE on it AT ALL.
The Interior is ALWAYS GLAZED.
The REASON that the EXTERIOR is Never Glazed on NEMADJI Pottery, is Because the SWIRLS & Colors You See....are the Actual Colors of the CLAY that is Used from the Riverbed.
Mostly it is Beige...with Swirls..MOST Common of Brown or Orange.
RED is GREAT....as Is BLUE
The GREATEST Reason for Collecting NEMADJI...is Because..Even though some of the Shapes are Repeated (especially the small pieces)....The Swirls, Colors, of the Exterior are Never Repeated.....It is NATURE in it's GREATEST FORM.
RAW CLAY that FIRES into these Colors in the Kiln.
There ARE NO TWO NEMADJI PIECES with the Same Design on the Exterior!
And that IS WHY, it is Unglazed.....Quite Beautiful....and WILL Be Worth ALOT More than it Is Today, SOMEDAY.
I Only Wish....they Would Vary the Shapes a Bit More....
BUT THE COLORFUL CLAY IS IT'S MAIN FEATURE.
NO GLAZE....(except inside)
VERY VERY SPECIAL POTTERY INDEED!
