After 2 years on e-bay I have just received my first negative feedback.

This feedback happened for the following reasons:

On April 19, 2007 I had a listing close which resulted in a sale in the amount of $21.45 to suncoast99 for one coin. My listing called for payment by paypal and payment within 3 business days of the close of the listing. This gentlemen (I use the word loosely) indicated he did not have a paypal account and I agreed to accept a personal checkor money order. Approximately 8 days after the close of the listing suncoast99 sent an e-mail asking for my mailing address, even though my address appeared on the invoice he was sent on April 19th and appears under order detail on his mysummary console.

I sent the gentlemen another invoice and my mailing address for the payment on April 28, 2007. On May 5, 2007 (15 days after the close of the listing I received a check in the amount of $20.99 which was .46 cents short. I sent the gentlemen a message that I was voiding his check and returning it to him and agreeing to complete the transaction if I received a replacement check for the correct amount within seven days.

When suncoast99 received this message he developed a real attitude that I should not have voided his check and since .46 cents was such a small amount I was being unreasonable for expecting to be paid the amount he had committed for. After this message I notified him that I was cancelling the sale and returning his voided check for non-compliance with my e-bay listing.

After he received this message he left negative feedback saying I was holding his money (lie) and was refusing to ship the coin (lie). It is every e-bayer's responsibility to bite the bullet and leave negative feedback when abusive buyers or sellers come along. So a 100% rating is fine but it also tends to attract con artists who will abuse sellers and buyers to their benefit, knowing that many e-bayers will not leave negative feedback and take losses to avoid negative feedback. 

ALWAYS try to resolve issues in a pleasant matter, but there are individuals like suncoast99 who are out to rip off other e-bayers and all e-bayers have a responsibility to let the community know about them.

My own return and cancellation policy is very generous and I have often taken a loss in listing fees because of lost jobs or other personal problems of a buyer. If any buyer wants to cancel a sale I virtually always agree with no negative feedback. For refunds I deduct the S&H and listing fees associated with the sale from the refund.

One of the most common complaints on e-bay is slow shipping. I ship all orders within 24 hours of receipt of comfirmed payment. Orders paid by personal check are held for 10 days to insure clearance of the check.
