Purchasing a replacement or backup NB-2LH Battery for your Canon? 

Canon NB-2LH         VS           Generic 

I have the Canon Rebel XT and take tons of photos.  I decided to get a backup battery for my XT and was very worried about purchasing something Generic instead of the actual Canon NB-2LH.  I did some research and here's what I found:

1.  JUICE:  The original NB-2lh has 750mAh - the generics usually have somewhere between 1000 to 1500mAh.  mAh is the amount of "Juice" that the battery can hold - it stands for mili amp hour.  Thus the generics can usually hold more Juice!  This does not hurt your camera - just allows it to run longer!  -- I have the 1500mA, and although it doesn't really last twice as long as the 750, it still definitely lasts longer - probably about 25-50% longer.

2.  RECHARGE:  The original NB-2LH took around 1 hr to 1.5 hrs to recharge to full capacity.  The Generic still only takes around 1.5 hrs to recharge, even with the higher mAh.

3.  DURABILITY:  I have had the generic battery for over a year now and it still retains it's charge for the same amount of time and still charges in the same amount of time.  No apparant degredation.

4. COST $$$$:  The original NB-2LH will usually cost over $40 and you can get a 1500mAh Generic for less than $10 AFTER shipping. 

OVERALL

I found that when all things are compared it was a no-brainer.  The Generic NB-2LH was the better purchase overall.  It lasts longer, performs just as well, and costs a whole lot less.  You can even get it bundled with a spare charger or other accessories for not much more $.  And if you get 2 or 3, you can save quite a bit on shipping.  It is definitely a smart purchase.
