Mystery boxes seem to be the craze on eBay lately.  But are they what the sellers promise them to be?  The answer is no.  I know this because I was lured into buying mystery boxes here on eBay.  Why are they so inviting?  Because they promise more than you can dream of for a great price.  Plus everyone is intrigued by mysteries, and you think you're going to get a nice big box full of goodies, but what do you get? JUNK.

Why junk?  If mystery box sellers really had the things they promised in the box (ex: Diamond ring worth over $1,000 with a starting bid of only $9.99) why not sell it by itself in an auction to get a better price?  The answer is that they're trying to make a quick buck on extra junk that they have lying around their homes (they just lure you by promising something expensive).  There's no way a seller would put a $1,000 diamond ring into a mystery box with a starting bid of only $9.99.  Doesn't make any sense does it?

In my own experience of buying mystery boxes I have only bought a couple of good ones that I actually got my money's worth in (they were Buffy the Vampire Slayer themed).  But I got a lot of crappy boxes as well.  Some examples of what I got: a box full of Q-Tips (I'm not kidding), various garage sale junk, old cassettes, children's VHS movies, and even one with a computer part in it (it looked like a part of the hard-drive).  Plus various other junk.  All of these boxes promised jewelry, money, and brand new items. Sure I bet there are people who do get some good stuff, but it's just not worth it to gamble your money away.

The reason why I kept buying boxes for awhile is because I wanted to see if there was any chance I could get something decent.  I never did get anything nice from an average mystery box (just Buffy the Vampire Slayer ones).  So of course after I experimented with that I stopped buying them altogether.  They were not worth wasting my money.

All these mystery box sellers want is to make money off of you, pure and simple.  And obviously they don't mind lying to you in order to get it.

Do yourself a favor and please don't bid on any mystery boxes.  You'll regret it later.
