Traveling
Traveling is ALWAYS harrying - but you can make it easier by packing certain items you probably already have lying around the house. If you have some favorite items, e-mail me and I'll add them to my list and credit you!
What I would NEVER travel without
- Clothes pins: I use these to pull together those curtains that don't quite close, leaving a gap through which the bright light shines through. They are also good to hold bread or chip bags closed after opening and to hang swimsuits on the bathroom clothesline.
- Ziploc bags: ALL sizes, including the new EXTRA large ones are handy when traveling. You can put you "found" treasures like seashells or sand or leaves or rocks, in the bags to prevent them from getting the car sandy/dirty. The extra large ones can be used to hold wet swimsuits. I put my toothpaste, shampoo, etc. in Ziploc bags before putting them into my bag. If they leak, they will not ruin your clothes or make a big mess. Of course you can use them to store open chips, cookies, etc.
- Diaper wipes/Disinfectant hand wipes: Use these to wipe sticky hands, etc.
Hand sanitizer: To use when soap & water are not available. - Shout Wipes/Tide Pen: Use to remove stains that may set in before you get home to wash clothing.
- Dryer sheets: Put a few in a ziplock bag and put one in each suitcase to keep clothes smelling fresh and the extra for the dirty clothes bag so the dirty clothes don't run you out of the car.
- Washing Liquid: Use it to wash out undies and swimsuits. Handy if you stay and extra day - find a laundrymat and you're in business.
- Travel size of hygiene products: Small sizes of shampoo and deodorant, etc. make more room in your bag to hall home souvenirs!
- An extra duffel bag: This can be used to hall home dirty clothes or souvenirs.
- Ponytail holders: Use as you would rubber bands on hair, to close bags, etc.
- Small presents: Wrap up small inexpensive toys and other items and give to the kids to unwrap whenever they lose interest in the toys/games they bought. Helps stops whining!
- Sunscreen: ALWAYS, ALWAYS, travel with sunscreen. Even in winter, your face needs protection.
- Magic marker: Use this to label cups in the hotel room or for picnics to avoid drinking after each other, use to label souvenir bags to avoid confusion when you return home.
- Paper/Plastic bags: Use to hold wet clothing or use in the car as a trash bag. Put dirty clothing in a plastic garbage bag to put in your suitcase to keep the clean and dirty clothes separate.
- Your favorite brand of sweetener: Not carried by all restraints, put a small Ziploc bag with a few packets of your favorite sweater in your purse or fanny pack.
- A light sweater: Now matter where you go it may turn cool on you. Always bring a light sweater or sweatshirt. This can save you from having to purchase them in a high priced gift shop.
- Safety pins and small sewing kit.
- Q-tips and cotton balls.
- Neosporin and Band-Aids/First Aid kit: For small accidents. Pack all sizes of bandages. Pack an instant cold pack for strains/sprains.
- OTC Medicine: Pack a variety of over the counter drugs like antihistamines, nausea medicine, acid stomach/heartburn medicine, anti-diarrheal, pain reliever or any common illness medicines that might help you along on your journey. Take the individually packaged kind and place all together in one ziploc bag. Be sure they are all LABELED as to what they are.
