MOVIE, MUSIC & MUSICAL DVD's
The biggest problems are Pirated Copies and Subtitles - and - also scratches DVD's
SCRATCHED DVD's
Sometimes the DVD's come off of their round center holder clip, and float around the jewel case during shipping, which can cause scratches. So ask the Seller to open the jewel case and place a piece of masking tape over the DVD and center clip, to prevent the DVD from coming off the clip.
PIRATED COPIES
These usually come from the East and if you look closely at the DVD box in the photo on the Seller's auction page, you will usually see Oriental writing on the cover. Not all DVD's from the East are pirated, but many are. These pirated copies often will not play properly and get stuck on certain tracks etc.
SUBTITLE PROBLEMS
Most pirated copies have Oriental Subtitles. Some can be switched off if the DVD has a Menu (most do not) or via you DVD's remote on the Subtitle Off/On button. Many times there is no Menu and/or the Subtitles cannot be switched off.
HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF
Ask the Seller if the DVD is an Original and if the Subtitles can be switched off. Keep a copy of your email to them so that you can return the item to them for a refund if they do not tell you the truth, and report them to eBay. Honest Sellers will answer your questions.
PACKAGING
The least the seller can do is to send your DVD in an envelope with bubble wrap inside
Hope my own experience above helps you. Happy eBaying ! Mark Rose-Christie
