Hello!
Here is another one of our Quick Guides regarding the MOTO Q. As mentioned in our many other MOTOQ Guides, we have had our Q for just over a 1 1/2 years. We used our Q [moderately just as a phone] from April 2007 to July 2007. Starting July 2007, we used the Q as a Broadband Modem, for which it has been running 24/7 since. In that time frame, we have replaced the battery twice with a OEM Motorola Battery, due to premature failure/overusage. Around April 2008, the Q got to the point where we had a VERY hard time getting ANY wall charger(AC Charger), car charger, or laptop connection via USB to charge the phone(or even show acknowledgement that a charger was connected). As of August 2008, the phone WOULD NOT charge at all. At the time, we were using one genuine Motorola wall charger from another phone, an aftermarket wall charger, and a few aftermarket/generic store-bought car chargers. The battery would last about 1 hour after fully charged, before the Q would shut down completely and be unable to be powered back up, due to the battery becoming completely drained. The only thing that the phone would do when attempting to power up is that is would just sit and flash an all white Alltel screen(the boot up screen).
So, as of lately(August 2008), no charging method would work with our Q (not even the purchase of a NEW [generic] car charger). We have since been able to find the Factory Motorola AC Wall Charger that came with our Q Package. IT WORKS! It is the only charger that can get us back up and running. After charging with this original equipment charger, we are able to charge via USB while being connected to the net. However, the Q will show two bars, and charges very fast, but will die when it hits two bars again. If we shut the Q down completely and let it sit, the battery continues to drain down regardless. Just the other night, we [fully] charged the Q to a full power bar under Power Management (not just looking at the four bars on the face screen), powered it off immediately, and turned it on in the morning. When we powered it up in the morning, it was down to 75% (without ANY use), and it lasted approx 30 minutes until it hit two bars of charge and died completely. At this point we are fortunate enough to be able to even charge the phone and use it as it is. This gives us time to reorder a new battery, and see how it functions from there. Hopefully this Q can get us through the next 8 months, until we are prepared to purchase another PDA.
So, the point of this Guide is to let you know if you are in this current situation with your Q or it happens in the future, that there IS HOPE! We're not sure why no other [identical] Motorola charger or aftermarket charger will work, but the Factory OEM AC Charger that came with the phone works flawlessly. If you dont happen to have the Factory Original Wall Charger, you may have to call your Service Provider or Motorola and purchase a new OEM charger. Will purchasing a new OEM Motorola charger work? We're not sure, but there is hope. Like we had mentioned, we currently have MANY devices that use the same mini-USB chargers, but none will work, not even another [identical] OEM Motorola charger.
Got a Q? View our MANY other Guides we have written on the Q since we have purchased it. There is A LOT of good information here, for both Q Owners and potential Owners. You can view our many other Guides by clicking our eBay ID, go to our My World Page, and on the far right side, click View Other Options, and click eBay Reviews & Guides. When you get to our Reviews & Guides screen, only three of our most popular Guides will pop up. There is a Link to click just below the last Guide that will guide you to our 3 pages of Product Guides. Here you will find a handful of Guides on the Q Smartphone.
