here is how to change motor , pump, and drive coupler in your whirlpool, roper, kitchenaid Kenmore
this system has been used for 20 years now and will still be out there till 2013
#1 some models have end caps pull from top forward to snap off. Screws will be located under this cap . Remove screws. Some newer models will have screw in back angaling towards front of washer
after removeing screws care fully hinge up and back
(note if screws are in back the just needed to be loosened and will stay in place there)
Step 2- Use flat blade screw driver to pry forward on gold clips on top of unit under control pannel
step 3- Unplug lid switch from top of washer
Step 4- This step reqiers gloves cabnit metal may have sharp edge's
Carefully tip cabnit forward may have to wiggle a little and hold back of washer forward to tip cab tward front
front lip of cabnit will slide under frame of unit just in front only the rest will stay on top of frame
Look closely at bottom of cabnit when removed see slots in bottom side lips of cabnit
now look at frame of unit there will be small pin shooting strate up in all 4 corners these pins must enter slits in bottom of cabnit when reasembling (can be tricky some times) metal is sharp use cloves
Step 5- The pump
Very symple to remove most of the time Pliers needed to remove clamps then 2 clips just pry off towards edge pump will slide off shaft of motor
(note if pump was leaking and created rust around shaft it may need to be busted to take off or pryed on becarefull not to damege Motor bering cap this can bend very easy on older models spary som wd40 or liqued wrench to get free.
step 6- Removeing motor almost as easy as pump un plug wire harness
remove 2 screws from motor clips. Pry clips off to side motor will now release from gear case be carefull not to loose ruber legs from back of motor the may also sta on gear case
( rubber legs below on back of motor)
step 7 - The drive coupler
This part is the part that make it all work just like the drive shaft on your car this couple's the motor and gear box to change symply pry old off most times it is busted and falls off
reinstalling be sure not to tap it to far on motor or gear box this will cause friction and friction causes heat and the part is plastic and will brake down from exes heat so just tap down till even with top of shafts
