I've been buying and selling on eBay for a long time now and have learned most of the tricks scammers use to deceive buyers. Most are listed in other guides but I've spotted a few more dead give-aways it's a fake listing.

Always compare the currency to the location. Recently I've seen numerous listings for kits, location is somewhere in the US but the currency is Euros. Just doesn't make any sense but there are always lots of bids on them.

If you find a kit at a great price (too good to be true), search the listings for the same model kit. Most of these scammers use the exact same pics on several fake listings. Some I've seen are the same kit in the same room but from a different angle. That's a pretty easy one to spot especially when they're located in different states.

Check the seller's feedback if it's not private. Most importantly check the feedback from recent buyers and look at the closed auction if it's available. I've spotted one fake by noting that the seller had only listed antique porcelain items in the past and was now selling a 2006 Kawasaki Ninja. Not to say it couldn't have been legit but it was a 3 day private auction, wire transfer or money order only.

Look at the seller's other listings if there are any. If you find someone with a really cheap V-Drum kit and every other listing they have is for used shoes I'd label it questionable.

There are exceptions to all things. Some legitimate sellers "borrow" pics from other listings, have 3 day or private auctions or request wire transfer or money orders. For me, I look for more than one of the telltale signs before declaring it a fake.

I'll always be an eBay shopper, just a careful one. I've only been burned once but it was my fault for not paying more attention. Have fun and be an educated shopper!
