Not long ago I wrote a guide on how to save money during the holiday's by making your own gifts. That guide can be found here http://reviews.ebay.com/How-To-Save-Money-This-Holiday-Season-DIY-Gifts_W0QQugidZ10000000001674390 .
In this guide, I will present more ideas that may add to your holiday savings.
If your, family is anything like mine, then it is HUGE! Solve the dilema of who to buy for by swapping names. This works well with the adults in a family. Each is only responsible for one other adult and a dollar amount for the gift is pre-determined.
Instead of giving material gifts, why not give your time? If you have a skill or talent (and who doesn't?), then put that to use. Offer coupons for handmade baked goods, hand-sewn items, or even an oil change for the mechanically inclined. These are sometimes much more appreciated than that dust catcher which would cost a great deal more.
You could also offer babysitting services, cleaning services, a day of running someone's errands, etc. The possibilities are quite endless! AND these services have cost you nothing but time and a little energy!
Hosting the holiday dinner? Set a theme and make it potluck! Why not have Italian or Mexican? Who says you MUST have ham or turkey? Assign all guests a dish and sit back and enjoy the day! Also, if all you are paying for is the main course, you have just saved a bunch of money!
Another big expense of the holiday season is all the wrapping paper etc. Make your own! It's cheaper to buy newsprint and handstamp it yourself. Or for those smaller items use brown lunch bags. You'll get a hundred for about a dollar. Let the kids decorate them. They will LOVE the project.
Make Christmas tree ornaments. This can be done inexpensively and will be a treasured item for years to come. Simply personalize each to the family's interests. You can make a dough to be painted and baked. Just mix 2 parts flour with one part table salt and one part water. Cook at 200 degrees until hardened.
These are just a few more money saving ideas. I hope you have enjoyed both of my guides.
Thank You!
