Mont Blanc Pens Buying Guide

Montblanc is a well-known German manufacturer of fine writing instruments.  Montblanc was originally founded in 1906 in Hamburg as a stationery store.  Alfred Dunhill--the famous men's clothier and inventor of the pocket cigarette lighter--acquired a majority shareholding of Montblanc in 1977 and took over the company in 1985.  Today, Montblanc writing instruments are viewed the world over as symbols of status, wealth, and impeccable taste.

Occasionally spelled Mont Blanc, all products feature a distinctive logo: a soft-edged six pointed star.  This star is meant to represent the snow-capped tip of the actual Mont Blanc, the tallest mountain in western Europe.  Located in the Alps, the mountain is 4,810 meters in height.  As a result, the number 4810 is a repeating motif in Montblanc pens as well. 

The most famous of their multiple lines of pens is the Meisterstuck (Masterpiece) collection.  First created in 1924, these writing instruments have achieved iconic status.  These pens can be easily recognized by their pen caps which feature three gold rings: a thick central ring, with a thinner one above and below.

Other Montblanc pen lines include the Boheme, Scenium, and the Starwalker.  Lines newly added to the collection include the edition inspired by film legend, Greta Garbo.  Limited Centenary editions feature a Mont Blanc snow-capped star made from their own uniquely cut diamonds.
