What is a Reverse Proof?
These are one of the more sought after coins of the 2006 Mint product line, and are already being considered "must have centerpieces" of any modern coin collection. The reverse proof was released and only available in the 20th anniversary three piece silver and gold sets.
Reverse proofs are struck in the same way as a normal proof coin, except the raised devices are mirror like and the fields of the coin are frosty. Regular proofs are made with fields that are mirror like and the raised portions of the coin are frosty, which is why it is called a reverse proof.
So far, the U.S. Mint has struck only the silver eagle and the $50 gold eagle as reverse proofs, but due to their popularity it seems likely they will not stop there!
Happy collecting!
