Award Winning Minimus 7
Upgrade Kit (Zobel Network Crossover) Reveiw
There is a seller litekeys on ebay who sells Upgrade Kits for Realistic Minimus 7 speakers.
First, let me say that the seller has set you up for an easily installation with everything ready.
I did two sets of Wood Minimus 7s and two sets of Black Metal.
SINCE THE TWEETER, WOOFER AND REAR CONNECTION PLATE CAN ALL BE UNPLUGGED LEAVING THE EMPTY CABINET YOU CAN PERFORM THE WORK EASIER ON THE OUTSIDE, THEN RE-INSTALL THE WIRED ASSEMBLY BACK IN THE ENCLOSURES.
For the wood enclosures, there are two types made in Japan. One had everything on the speaker L-R bracket so you removed the woofer/tweeter, the sound insulation and the 4 screws holding the L-R bracket on the back. Cut the Capacitor in place re solder the assembly and the Upgrade Board is glued on the inside rear above the L-R bracket.
The second wood speakers were older, the have a large bracket on the inside back with a huge coil. The bracket is bolted on the inside. You can remove it and add the kit then re-install the assembly. The Upgrade Board glues to the left side on this one because the bracket with a huge coil is in the way.
The metal cabinets made in Korea have the L-R bracket like the first wood one I mentioned. With woofer/tweeter and L-R bracket removed you install the assembly. The Upgrade Board is glued to the right side because the back molding studs.
The glue you'll use is Polyurethane. It bonds when the surfaces are damp. This glue expands as it cures so get ready to hold it down as it does. Also with this glue the kit board slides around like it's on grease. Make sure your board is horizontal and push it down when it starts to expand. It turns a yellow color. This is the best glue for the Job. Elmer's or Gorilla glue, both the same. It's better if you can prepare a weighted object to hold the Upgrade Board in place.
ALSO ADD MORE INSULATION, THERE IS SUCH A SMALL AMOUNT INSIDE
The speakers become more warm, tinniness disappears, an excellent upgrade.
