There are several fabrics used to make miniature bears and animals with. For the beginner I would suggest vintage rayon. It does not fray or stretch and is very easy to twist and turn. You can make very tiny bears with it, and inch and a half tall.....that's how easy it is to work with.

Rayon is in-expensive and the colors are endless. You can dye it a different color or bleach it. You never know what color your going to get when you bleach it. I use clorox bleach only, the generic brands do not work the same. Some colors won't change at all when you bleach them and others will surprise you. I would suggest using a couple little sample pieces to test before bleaching a whole piece.

Long pile rayon is very similar to Malden Mills fabric. Malden Mills has a bit of a longer pile than rayon. The back of Malden Mills fabric has a white grid and the back of rayon is woven. They both have a very nice sheen to them.

You can find rayon in my ebay store for around $1.60 per piece. Malden Mills fabric is usually very expensive. They do not make either one of these fabrics anymore. The equipment that they used to make them is no longer in exsistance.

As you can see the weave is the same. Rayon is a bit tighter weave than Malden Mills.
