I didn't realize when I purchased a new home a few years ago, that I was compelled to furnish it in mid century. I used to despise "Leave it to Beaver" and the Good Old 50's. Suddenly, I was drawn to anything Mid Century. Yes, I am a bargain hunter and a shop-a-holic. I found so many things on Ebay like Fiberglass lampshades and atomic dishes. Where else can one go to find specialty items.
So the house is completely furnished right down to the stereo console and vinal records. My therapist asked if I was re-creating my childhood. Maybe. But I came to realize that I was born in the 50's and I am one of the baby boomers who has attained wisdom over the years and is still kicking!
But one problem: I can't stop treasure hunting for mid century products. I'm not a pack rat, but a minimalist. So, here I am on Ebay. I hunt and gather and then sell. I'm new, so I'm still in the hunting ground at every estate sale and garage sale.
It is amazing what people like to get rid of. Like the old saying "One man's garbage is another's treasure."
I'm having a blast and wearing my husband out. My little dogs are not getting the attention the should be getting on the weekends because 'tis the season for garage sales and estate sales.
So If you baby boomers out there get a yen for an old dish that just feels good and you don't know why, purchase it. Objects do make one feel good around the house. I use all of the things I buy, I do not just display them.
The craftsmanship of the good old days cannot compare to today's stuff!
