My brother fell for a Mercedes scam. I was stunned when he told me he actually sent the guy some money, $5500.00 to be exact. My other siblings and I told him it was a scam, and to do a Carfax Report, and to check the registration any way he could ect ect.
Here's the scam, the car owner is in the military, is shipping out soon and needs to sell the car in a hurry for a deep discount. ( That in itself should bring up a few question marks). The car is in Detroit and the bank is in California (another red flag) and the money is to be sent to the California bank which is in his aunt's name, (WHAT?) and the supposed military guy will ok it from there.
As it turns out the lady had no idea anyone had been into her account ( the $5500.00 was taken out of her account without her knowledge and her regular banking activity was not disturbed).
Bottom line is, don't get caught up in the bidding frenzy and think you are going to lose a great deal. More than likely it's already been looked at by others, and if it's still there, (that should make you think something other than "Whoopie it's my lucky day".). Follow all the steps and the guidelines Ebay gives you, use common sense, and remember " if it seems too good to be true, ...................................".
