APPOINT A COOK
It's best to assign one person in the group the task of planning the meals. That way key ingredients are less likely to be forgotten when one person is responsible.
WRITE IT DOWN
Write down the menu for each meal needed on the trip, making note of snacks and drinks too. Beside each menu, write down the necessary quantities of staples as well as any seasonings or cooking fats or oils that may be needed. Try to plan the menus around a few key ingredients. Be open to ideas presented from the group. Keep the meals simple, but strive to provide the basic daily requirements.
ANTICIPATE EXTRA CALORIC NEEDS
Remember that small children who eat like birds at home may eat like starving vultures on the trail Anticipate this beforehand, and plan generous portions for all. Everybody will be expending more energy and requiring more calories to remain active. And remember that camping at high altitudes or in cold weather requires extra calories just to stay warm.
