Many are looking for an worthy alternative to a apple ipod product line. Most who are looking for alternatives also want something different and customizable. I have been looking for an mp3 player for a while. I wanted something that was just as user friendly and can play multiple formats of audio and video. I liked the 8gb nano but not the $250.00 price tag.

 

My quest lead me to the Meizu M6 mini Player. The player is sleek black (they have white as well) and really easy to use. The player has some really good qualities that I would like to share with you. What you will notice first thing is the screen size. The unit it self is about the size fof a credit card and has a 2.4” screen by Samsung, SP model. I believe all the 8gb's are the SP type. The memory is also by Samsung, Meizu has put some really good quality parts into the unit. The battery life is around 23 hours, published at 30 hours but actual time is around 23hrs.

 

One of the things that I was blown away by is that the actual sound of the music was so much clearer and way more bass than my notebook sound card provided. I use to use my notebook at work and plugged in my headphones, but now the Meizu M6 has taken over. Other than the sound quality this thing has an adjustable EQ and a bunch of predefined settings such as rock, pop, jazz etc. I did not mess around with the EQ too much it just sounded to good on the factory settings


The unit will play MP2, MP3, WMA, FLAC, OGG

and WAV Audio Playback Xvid Video Playback Supports BMP, JPG and GIF Photo Formats.

 

Something you don't see for most of the other players out there is the customizable user interface.

You can download custom themes or create your own. I found a lot of support from the meizume.com.They have different categories for the skins, firmware updates and wallpapers. The mezui M6 has a beautiful screen and they take advantage of this with the custom skins and wallpapers.

 

Sounds nice but how does all this cost?

 I was able to purchase mine on ebay from ApexAucZone . I have no affiliation with this seller other than I purchased mine from them. I feel that the shipping and service was incredible, from Hong Kong to my door in Pittsburgh PA took just 5 days.

If you not looking for a 8gb unit you can get the 4gb version by Meizu/Dane-Elec from of all places walgreens.com for $99.99 That is a great deal if your not looking to put movies on it. Most people will use this for mp3's only. I have tried the videos on it and they looked great. I was actually surprised on how good the video turned out. Although I will not be using it for videos but you can and it is a great unit that you have a hard time finding a bad review on.

Now with the Bad ... don't worry the list is short.

I have had problems with the following:

 

   1. Screen has a couple of small scratches on the face. they are not noiceable when the unit is on. (Leave the protective cover on the unit  ... my fault      I did not read the instructions first)

   2. FM tuner is not as strong as I would like it to be.

 

That is about it the player is a very strong competitor to the ipod the only thing that ipod has at this point is a bunch of over priced accessories that keep you buying ipod or the rest of your life.

 If you have not taken the ipod plunge take inconsideration the Meizu M6 either 4gb or 8gb you will not be disappointed. I give it a 9.5/10 only due to mine having a couple of scratches on the face this is a problem with all the ipods and other players so it is not that big of a deal. As as I stated you can not see it with the unit on so it really does not matter.. Mezui M6 SP it is a truly a great player.
