When I originally wrote this guide I was in hopes that some how President Obama would turn around the nation and the economy.  It appears that it is unlikely he can do either...the Robber Baron Bankers and Wall Street Charlatans are now in full control.  Since first posting this guide in June, I have noticed that the desperation of sellers is having an interesting affect of the pricing of Megaladon Sharks Teeth.  My original ascertion was that the prices would be driven down, and I still firmly believe this.  However, what you are currently seeing on eBay is an increasing number of sellers throwing out ridiculous Pie in the Sky Prices in attempt to "hit the proverbial homerun".

Never before have their been so many Megaladons priced at over $500.00 as there are now.  There are now 53 Buy it Now teeth listed with prices ranging from $500 up to $2500.  What you as a buyer need to pay attention to is that these rarely sell.  Come back next week and they will still be for sale.  The Buy it Now numbers have now swollen to upwards of 1000 listings which is a record.

So what is going on?

It our estimation, the mad pricing is a reflection of a mad world where U.S. unemployment numbers are now swelling to record highs and people are now in a flat out panic and attempting to raise money any way they can.  Now you may feel compelled to overpay for one of these ridiculously priced teeth, but unless you are buying out of the goodness of your heart and charity to the buyer, I would recommend you wait as eventually this pricing anomoly will dissappear.  Watch the auctions, and buy from private sellers that are not claiming to be shark's tooth sellers and you find a better price.  The sellers that have hundreds of sharks tooth sales under their belts also have the highest prices.

If you have cash in this market, you may wish to focus on the Rare Book Market....deals are abundant right now.  You can snap up rare first editions for a pittance.  The bottom has fallen out of the book market and folks are lucky to attract any bidders at all.  Prices have fallen to record lows and many books go unsold week after week...This my friends is what you call a Buyer's Market.

Original Guide Posted June 2009:

The Economy is now in a of a full blown Depression and it is obvious in certain markets on eBay.  Megalodon Sharks Teeth is one such market.  Early in the summer of 2008 we able to buy up 5 1/2 to 6 inch Megolodon teeth from $55.00 to $175.00.  Around early June of 2008, you would only find around 129 or so Megs selling each day.  That number ballooned in the fall of '08 up to around 680 per day as the stock market crashed.  Now it is running half that at the mid 400 range as of May of '09.

Part of the problem with the ridiculous prices has to be with the mad rush to buy Megs after the History Channel began showing their film on the sharks last summer.  This creates an artificial bubble in the market.  Bubbles eventually burst.

Interestingly enough in the Buy it Now Pricing, folks have begun to put ridiculous prices on their teeth, most likely out of economic desperation and their attempt to land 1 Big Sale.  Buyer beware.  Most of the teeth listed from $500.00 on up are way overpriced.  I would be cautious at this price point.  Wait until the Depression is full blown around after GM Declares Bankruptcy in June and many of the folks holding these high dollar "prizes" will most likely be forced to reduce their price as they will not be able to continue to carry their inventory month after month without a sale.  I would reckon that within a year you should be able to once again pick up 5 1/2" to 6" Teeth for anywhere from $40.00 to $120 as the bottom falls out of the market.

Caveat, if I were a seller, I would be putting up my whole inventory as soon as possible in order to get the best prices I can get, because you may not be able to get top dollar later.  I have spoken with several South Carolina and Florida dealers that expect pricing to collapse pretty quickly if the U.S. economy continues to spiral downward.

We have made a good living being the first ones to spot such trends on eBay.  We were the first ones to sell Jazz Reel to Reels for over $100.00 per reel a few years back as we realized the reels were way undervalued on eBay.

Hint:  The real buys on ebay right now are in the rare book section.  Buyers have dissappeared and great deals can be found.
