WHAT'S NEEDED

• Before you start to measure a garment, lay it flat on a firm surface.   Surfaces such as a clean table will do. 
• You will also need a relayable measure tape. 

INCHES vs. CENTIMETERS vs. METRIC

USA consumers are used to measurements in inches or centimeters, but other countries use may use the metric system.  If you sell within the USA, inches alone should suffice.  However, if you ship worldwide, you have the choice of exactly which sytem of measurements to include. 

PLACES TO MEASURE

Not all garments will have the following measurements.  Pick and choose measurements to include based on the garment.

• Neckline

On V-neck shirts, open shirt/top, then measure from one button area on one end to the other end.

• Shoulder Width

Measure from shoulder seam to shoulder seam

• Bustline/Chest

Measure from armpit to armpit, then multiple by 2.

• Waistline

Measure top of waistline from side to side, then multiple by 2.

• Hips

Measure area directly below/on crotch seam or area 6-8 inches below waist or area directly below zipper, then multiply by 2.

• Front Rise (Pants)

Measure from top front of waist to crotch seam or top front of waist to directly below zipper.

• Back Rise (Pants)

Measure from top back of waist to crotch seam.

• Inseam (Pants & Shorts)

Measure from area directly below/on crotch seam to the end of the pants leg.

• Sleeve Length

Measure from shoulder seam to bottom of sleeve (to end of sleeve if no cuffs or to the beginning of cuffs if included).

• Sleeve Width

Measure from top of shoulder seam to bottom of shoulder seam (area connecting sleeve).

• Cuff Length

Measure from top of cuff to bottom of cuff.

• Length

Measure from top of garment to bottom of garment.

• Slit/Vent (If any)

Measure from top of slit or vent to bottom of slit or vent.

• Sweep of Hemlines

Measure from one end to the other.

• Sweep of Flares (Pants)

Measure from one end to the other.

IMPORTANT NOTE

The more measurements you can provide to potential buyers the better.  A few measurements here and there are great, but the more measurements that can be provided cuts down on specific requests for measurements and lets buyers know immediately if the item is the right size for them.  This also may reduce the number of requests for return due to improper fit.  Buyers can not try on garments, so giving as many measurements as possible gives them a little more insight into their purchase.
