I am an avid McCoy dog dish collector. I have been lucky enough to get several nice vintage bowls as well as some expensive fakes. There are several educational websites that are easy to find using key words like McCoy and Fake etc. These have been invaluable to me in helping to spot the fakes. Some simple things to keep in mind when looking at an auction; If it is not described as vintage or authentic don't presume that it is. There are some obvious clues to look for in the pictures offered by a seller, like the McCoy mark itself. You will be able to spot a fake immediately if you just educate yourself as to how the stamp should look as well as the made in usa mark. Also look at the quality of the lettering. Some of the latest fakes are getting so far from the original that it doesn't even look like the same thing. The original bowls should also be large, heavy and have nice crisp art nouveau style lettering. The original color choices were also limited. If you enjoy collecting these bowls as I do, just be sure you know what you are getting. Good Luck!
Please look at the pictures of authentic McCoy details - The mark should be lower case and crisp with a very unique Mc design- The rim should be thick and slope into the bowl - The lettering should be elegant and crisp with a little ¤ symbol after the word DOG - The letter G should look like the one in the picture - Collecting pink and yellow and blue bowls can be fun, just be sure you know what you're paying for
