Max LeVerrier (1891-1973) was a famous French sculptor based in Paris specialising in creating art deco figurines and statues including works such the famous Biba girl lamp. After the first world war Leverrier studied at the 'Beaux Arts' in Geneva alongside famous contemporaries Pierre Le Faguays and Bourraine who he would remain friends with throughout his life.
LeVerrier's first piece was the 'Pelican' after which followed a number of animal studies including monkeys, panthers and horses. It was in the 1920s that LeVerrier became famous for his studies of woman as part of the art deco era's fascination with the ideal female form - all lithe athleticism and perfect symmetry.
Some of his most famous works include Janle, Enigme, Luer, Grape Dancer, Danseuse A La Coupe and Nusia. Original works by Leverrier are highly sought after and colletable.
