The Masterlock 5401 D is the newest entry into the family of wallmount lockboxes and seems to be the best entry yet. (They have only been on the market about a year) Upon viewing this model I knew it was going to be the wallmount version that I recommended to everyone I know. And as I have used it let me just say they seem to have answered nearly every complaint or issue with other brands of lockboxes. If you compare this review to the others on the other brands of lockboxes I have written you will notice the stark differences of this brand of lockbox versus others.
Each of these Categories are rated on a scale of 1 to 10
“1” being poorest “10” being the best.

Quality of contruction “9”
PROS: The Masterlock 5401 D has an all-metal construction with great looking rubber and plastic ergonomic features that just add to its appearance of quality. It also contains a completely unique feature of a sliding dial cover to protect the dials from the elements. It mounts easily to most any surface and is a very attractive lockbox.
CONS: The Wallmount is the largest of all the wallmount models and therefore is not as discreet as other models are.
Ease of Use: “9”
PROS: The Masterlock is so easy to use that a child able to read numbers can open it. Simply give the other person the 4-digit number to access the key storage compartment. The 4 dial system is more secure and does not require sequential steps. With the ShurLok, if you are off one number, simply correct that number.
CONS: The dials are much larger than the shurlok model but they are still hard to operate if you have long fingernails.
Changing the Combination With Ease: “9”
PROS: The Masterlock has made changing the combo the easiest yes of any other make and model of lockbox. Simply click the change lever set the combo and your done.
CONS: Changing the combo is so easy that a person with bad intent could change it on you. (Not likely but the possibility is there.)
Security: “7”
PROS: The Masterlock 5400 D hass 10,000 possible combinations. Far Superior than Punch Button Lock Boxes which are not near as secure. For example If your combination on the punch button is 1-2-3-4, the combination is NOT sequential. This means that you can open up the lock box on 4-3-2-1, 2-3-4-1, etc. ...ANY combination of those 4 numbers out of 10 can open up the punch button lock box. This translates into a lock box that is not very secure. As well as the construction of this box is second to none.
CONS: The combo on these does not reset upon being opened. If a person gains access to this box and does not spin the dials then it can be opened by the next person that tries.
Price: “7”
PROS: The Masterlock 5401 D wallmount is a medium priced box Cheaper than the Supra models, but more expensive than the Shurlok
CONS: If price is the issue then the cost could be prohibitive.
Features: These are important to note features to know when making your buying decision:
1. No Front Face to Lose: Other brand lock boxes have the common problem of the face falling off the front if it is not clicked back in securely. With the face falling off onto the ground, this poses an open invitation for anyone to pick up those keys and access the home. Also, people often walk off with the front face which means you then have to buy a new lock box. Masterlock 5400 D has solved this problems with an innovative Hinged door that remains open but doen not detach.
2. Zero Lock: The Masterlock 5400 D can be opened in the dark for nighttime access or the visually impaired. Simply roll the dials up and away from you until the numbers all lock on zero and then count your numbers in sequential order down from there.
3. Protection from the elements: The Masterlock 5400 D comes with a unique sliding door that covers the dials and protects them from the elements. This makes the Masterlock ideal for areas with harsh winters.
4. Extra large storage area: The Masterlock 5401 D wallmount has an extra large storing cavity so putting in 8 to 12 keys can be done easily and they won't fall out as the hinged door opens from the top so your key won't fall out.
