I was looking for boats today and I found this Mastercraft, 2006 boat, that had a really low start but when you read the body it said not to bid on the boat but to email the seller so you could "buy it now".  The BIN price was $8500.  It had a few pictures of some guys out on the boat on a body of water, but the actual photos of the boats interier were pictures from a showroom.  I sent an email to the seller, asking if we could come and inspect the boat and why they were selling it and this is the first response that I got.

Hello,

First of all I want to thank you for contacting me and your interest for the boat. I know that are numerous offers on eBay and I'm glad that you choose to contact me regarding your interest in purchasing the boat.
It was my son`s boat... he died in Iraq 2 months ago ... can`t handle to see this boat everyday .
This will be my gift in memory of my son , ( he would be very happy if i find a person who will love and take care of this boat in the same way he did .
You have to know that the boat is 100% working and looking very good, no flaws or dents, no scratches or any kind of damage,no flood or wrecked and it has a US clear title. The price for the boat is $8.000( includes shipping ) because I want to close a quick and smooth deal with a serious person.A deposit of $ 4,000 US must be sent to eBay prior shipping(when you will receive the invoice) and the remaining balance after you will receive and inspect the boatAbout the shipping I can tell you that will be done through DAS Shipping Company  and it will take no more than 4-5 days.I had to move to Italy for work reasons so I decided that the payment be completed using Ebay security because I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% LEGIT.
I hope I have told you all you need to know and I will keep looking for possible buyers until you will inform me that you want to go ahead with the deal.
Best Regards!!!

This is almost word for word what another person got from another seller.  The email account name was angela_prew at hotmail dot com in case you are wondering.  When I got that first response I immediately sent a response that went something like, "I am so sorry for your loss.  My husband was in Iraq in 2003 and every day that he was there I was stressed out and afraid.  What unit was your son in and where was he stationed?  I also said that we were really interested and wanted to come out and see it.  My husband is willing to drive tonight and go pick it up."  This is the next reply that I got.

The boat is in ebay custody in san Jose CA.I want to use ebay to asist this transaction because this way we will be 100% safe. The deposit will be sent to eBay via bank transfer, and after you will receive the boat, you will have  7 days to inspect it. If you are satisfied you must inform eBay to release the money to my account .The deposit must be sent to eBay not to me so I will not receive the funds until you will receive the boat (eBay terms). If for some reason you don't like the boat or isn't the one in my listing , eBay will totaly refund you.If something goes wrong with the boat during shipping , eBay will also totaly refund you from my Purchase Protection account which is up to $10,000.If you are further interested please email me your full name and shipping address in order to contact ebay to send you the invoice for the purchase.
Thank you!

I replied that there was no such thing as eBay custody and that I wouldn't do anything with money unless it was through escrow.com and that we either see the boat first, then give her cash or no deal.  I haven't received another email.  PLUS, when I try to look up the item in eBay it is gone.  She/He also had a listing for an Airstream travel trailer with the same low start price, email me for the BIN info and that listing is also gone.  I did forward them to eBay's fraud department so maybe they took them off.  I don't know.  Hopefully tomorrow I will get a response from eBay about what it was, them removing it or the seller freaking out and removing the rest of the items.

Another interesting thing is the only feedback that this seller had was for some swarofsky crystal bracelets.  Then this high-priced items.  I wish that I had the seller id, but when I went to look it up everything was gone.  But beware of mastercraft (or any other high priced boats) scams out there.  Don't be swayed by such a low price, if it was legit then the seller could make a LOT more money off the item than the low price they are quoting.
