Mary Hazelton Blanchard Wade (1860-1936) was born in Charlestown, Massachusetts on 23 March 1860 to Charles Henry and Caroline Cecelia Blanchard. She graduated from Malden, MA Grammar and High Schools, followed by study provided by private tutors. Mary married Louis Francis Wade of Ann Arbor, Michigan on 14 November 1882. Prior to this she was a teacher, beginning in 1877. After leaving the teaching field she worked as an author of books for children. Her best known books are from the Little Cousins series.
