How many times have you walked by a Marx train, not thinking much about it? Many of us have done that, but, as time has passed we have learned to appreciate the fanciful toy train creations produced by the Louis Marx factories all those many years ago (production ended in the early 1970's).

Some have taken these trains and created fantastic new versions of the old. Lets call them toy trains that Marx should have produced!

Thanks to the craftsmanship and photographic skills of Jerry Custer we have a treat as we view some of the treasures he has created. The saying, "A picture is worth 10,000 words" is most appropriate, so without further adieu................

In the above photo, in the background, is an original Marx Western Pacific observation (#1007), full vista dome (#1217) and a coach (#1217); next a Santa Fe observation (#3197), vista dome (#3152) and coach (#3152) and now the spectacular stuff! Note the custom  Baltimore & Ohio (light & dark blue); the custom Kansas City Southern (black, yellow & red) and the custom Illinois Central (brown, orange & yellow). Below are some closer shots so you can appreciate these gorgeous Illinois Central units. So you can compare these with regular Marx production you can look at the  Marx Diesel Guide...Mostly Postwar Plastic:

The next passenger cars in the original photo are the Kansas City Southern complete with a matching diesel and express box car:

Coming right at you (below left) are a trio of units beginning in the back: Baltimore & Ohio, New York Central and the MKT "The Silver Streak". The Silver Streak is modeled after an American Flyer "S" gauge unit of the same name. Also note that standard Marx New York Central 3/16" tinplate passenger cars will look great with the New York Central units:

Last, but, not least is an "in production" MKT Texas Special loco and passenger cars looking for decals. Another beauty in the making:

Jerry's Marx customization is not limited to passenger consists. Below are freight cars that could have been produced as well:

When you see the workmanship and photographic expertise employed in these units what can you say! Too bad the photos can't be larger, but, none the less they are spectacular and we can look forward for more to come!

Very best, Mike (lionelsuperotrack on eBay)

PS A hearty thank you to Jerry Custer who is the creator of these magnificent toy trains as well as their photographer. His willingness to share his creative efforts is graciously appreciated.
