After decades of experience with a hubby martial arts instructors I have learned some nifty tricks to managing the upkeep and repair of martial arts uniforms.
To get a patch in the right location when worn put the uniform on and use a pin or temporary fabric marker to mark where the patch should be. Layout your uniform flat and place path over the marked area, remove any sewing pins. Using the bottom edge of the uniform to center the patch. Pin the patch in place and then try the uniform back on to check for placement and alignment. Patch application is best when hand sewn. Most glues over time will yellow or cause uniform damage.
Uniform seams that come loose can be harder than it may seem to repair. Remember the uniform is going to be used in training where stress will be put on the seams. Use a good quilting cotton thread, double stitch the area and zig zag the seam edges to give the repaired seam some strength.
Applying custom trim or instructors uniform edging is something for the advanced sewer only. Trim has to be smooth, even and straight to the lines of the uniform. Try a homebase bridal alterations sewer who would have the most experience usually in applying edgings to clothing. If you are going to invest in custom trim I would suggest also investing in a good quality uniform. Putting high quality and costly trim on a uniform that won't last costs more in the long run. Sun Uniforms and Century do factory applied custom trim which is also another route to ensure end results look good.
