Many buyers have asked here at Studio_Blu about buying authentic Marc Jacobs items. We thought it was time to set a few things straight and provide some simple guidelines for purchasing authentic items.
First let me say that there is no Marc Jacobs line specifically created for any Asian country. Sellers who claim that a particular item has a "different tag" because it was specifically created for such and such country are selling "knock offs". Many Marc Jacob items are manufactured in Asian countries, but there are no lines created especially for them. There are two lines, Marc Jacobs the higher end line and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Try to purchase items that have the tags attached. While there are pre-owned items, that could very well be authentic, the risk is much higher for bootlegs when there are no tags.
Marc Jacobs tags will be sewn in on clothing items. The clothing tag will be attached at the top back of the neck. The tag will be sewn at both ends and will have the size and fabric content tag in the center just below the Marc Jacobs tag. On Marc by Marc Jacobs the word Marc will be brighter than the word Jacobs.
The hang tag (paper tag) is black with Marc written in white and Jacobs written in gray.
.
Marc Jacobs shoes will have the name embossed into the leather and Marc by Marc Jacobs shoes will have a tag attached into the footbed and Marc Jacobs will be stamped into the sole of the shoe (on most styles, but not all). Again, try to get the shoes in the box to help assure authenticity. The MJ box is ivory with black lettering. The M by MJ box has a white top with Marc Jacobs written on the top (Marc is written in black and Jacobs in gray) and the box bottom is black.
Always look at the Seller's feedback. That can point out any red flags. Look for any feedback claiming unauthentic items and use this information to help form your purchasing decisions. Also look at the mutual withdrawl numbers (located at the bottom of the feedback numbers). Withdrawls are sometimes used to remove false/inaccurate comments, but can also be used by dishonest sellers to help their feedback. If a seller has an unusual amount of withdrawls, this is another red flag.
*Do keep in mind that Buyers are not always knowledgable and could have left incorrect feedback, but feedback can be a very helpful guide.*
Be wary of items being sold by Sellers in Asian countries. This is not to say that all Asian sellers are selling "knockoffs", but I have never seen an authentic Marc Jacobs item being sold by any Asian seller. Also, carefully check the feedback of Sellers in Canada. Many Asian sellers are now feeding their auctions through Canada to make the items appear authentic. Again, this is not to say that all Canadian (or even most) sellers are selling bootleg items, but with Marc Jacobs and other designer lines (Juicy Couture, Diane Von Furstenberg, Chloe and BCBG just to name a few), the risk becomes greater. Always check the feedback. If a seller sells only Marc Jacobs, DVF, Chole and BCBG, all without tags, this is a pretty sure sign that all of their items are fake.
There are many deals to be found on eBay, but designer items will always carry a certain price base. Be very careful when the price is well below wholesale. If major high end department stores, who purchase in great bulk, can't sell a particular item at the price quoted (even on sale) it is unlikely that you are getting an authentic item.
Lastly, always trust your instincts. If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. If an item is a style, fabric, color, etc., that you have never seen and that no reputable Seller or major department store has ever carried, it is most likely a knockoff.
We hope that this information will prove helpful to buyers with their shopping experience on eBay. At Studio_Blu we sell only authentic items and would be happy to answer any questions about any lines that we carry.
