Many people search eBay every day looking for Manitowoc brand ice makers. Some eBay stores, such as Prima Supply's Ice Machines section, are full of ice makers by the manufacturer. When the time comes to place an order, the question sometimes gets asked, "Do you want dice or half-dice sized ice?" So... what's the big deal? Why is the seller asking that question and how are you supposed to decide?
First of all, it's important to realize that your ice machine, if it has an ice size option, can only be one or the other. You cannot adjust the type of ice cube your machine produces once you receive it. The reason is that Manitowoc manufactures these units with a certain size grid in which the ice cubes are formed. The dice sized ice cubes are practically a one-inch cube, while the half-dice sized cubes are, well... half that! So, you have to decide which size you want, because you can only get one. You should keep in mind that it's much cheaper to decide up front instead of ask for the wrong type and try to ship it back later! Also, the type of ice may affect stock levels, so it's always best to ask in advance.
So, what criteria should you use to decide? For the most part, it's up to you. What is your preference? I've been to Subways that use dice sized cubes and McDonald's restaurants that use half-dice. And I'm pretty sure I've seen the reverse at either restaurant, too! It's mostly a personal thing, but if you find yourself in one of the following situations, maybe these pointers can help:

- People bagging ice - Keep in mind that dice sized cubes fill the bag faster, and most people filling coolers will be happy with the larger cubes.
- People blending drinks - You may want to go for half-dice sized cubes, as the smaller cubes can blend a little easier.
