I have been an eBay member now for 4 years, and what a journey it has been. I have decided to start implementing eBay guides, reviews, and blogs to start giving back to the eBay community. I started my eBay business 2 years ago when I had my first son Caleb and viewed eBay, at the time, as a hopeful way to create income on a flexible schedule. I was working full time up until I got pregnant, and after I learned the happy news, I decided I wanted to be home more with my future child. The challenge in deciding to stay home was how to supplement my income or re-create my full time working income, and still be able to be available for my child's needs. I really needed something flexible, and thought eBay might fit the bill.
"Where should I start?", and with this question my journey began. Well, as you may or may not know, there is a whole cottage industry that has sprung up around eBay in trying to promote and sell ways to make a fulltime living on eBay in "only minutes a day" or "with these simple tricks". All of these infomercial type of e-books seemed so unreal. I guess everyone has fallen for them at some point and they all seem to sell promise and hope for the low, low price of only $19.99.
I sought after people who have achieved eBay success and sought out their conultation. I did hours and hours of research on my own because I wanted to try and be successful the first time around. I didn't want to have to bang my head against the wall learning, and truly needed some direction.
My father is a medical professional. He taught us growing up the value of consultation, and consulting with the proper people. When you have an electrical problem you consult an electrician and so on and so forth. I was lucky in my search for an eBay mentor, and the price I paid for their advice and direction was well worth every penny. My mentor had already had alot of their own head banging experiences that they helped me avoid, and this helped me move along much faster than if I had to learn everything out on my own without them.
Now you may have heard the Chinese Proverb "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime". eBay is great at giving you all the online resources you need to start your business online. They give you all of the tools that you need to in order to build your business, but they don't teach you "how to fish". Without proper implementation of these tools and a plan you'll more than likely end up swimming upstream.
My view of eBay has evolved over the years. I view it as a "village", and I'm just a member of the village going about my business. Often in a village your neighbor needs some milk, or some eggs, and as a good village citizen you share with them. Another village member has shared with me, and now I feel it's my turn to share with others. I hope that in my upcoming guides you will follow me in my journey in becoming a more successful village member, and learn from me how I have made eBay work.
Stay tuned. I plan on writing here 1-2x per week, and I really look forward to interacting with the community.
