If you have or find a good quality cymbal, but it has a crack on the edge, there are companies (myself included) that can professionally cut a cymbal down to a smaller size.
Most people cut cymbals with metal shears,a jig saw or a band saw. While these all work OK, the cymbal is not perfectly round and sometimes has some sharp edges. The best method is to use a lathe on a medium speed and "turn" the cymbal to a smaller diameter. Most of the cymbals that were done were very useful & musical. One set of great sounding hihats was made from 2 ride cymbals.
If you are saving 50% or more of the cymbal, then it is worth it to have it cut down.Drilling a crack or widening a crack weakens the cymbal and in time it will crack some more.
