One of the best things you can do for your new baby is to feed them the best food right from the start.  Store bought food is full of perservatives, additives, artificial colors and many things that your baby doesn't need and frankly may well be harmful to your newborn.  I have made homemade babyfood for all four of my children and found it economical and easy.  Babies once they are four months old can start eating cereals and then you can add fruits and veges.  By the time they are eight months old, you can start feeding them meats.  The only difference between our food and babies food, is that babies food should not have added salt, sugar or other additives, it should be natural and free of pesticides and herbacides.  Summer and Fall are great times to hit the farmers markets and get some great produce.  In the winter, either find the organic section of your grocery store or buy foods that the peels will be removed, that way you know your child isn't getting any herbacides or pestacides.  Always clean and scrub your produce too.  The best way to cook the produce, if necessary is to bake or stem it so that all the natural vitamins and minerals remain in the food.  Also use the water, that you cook the produce in to help thin the food as you puree it.  That adds back additional vitamins and minerals and the much needed liquid to help soften the foods.  Tools you will need are basic.  The only thing I ever needed was my food processor or you can even just use a blender.  Beginning foods to start with are the cereals (rice, oats, barley), fruits (bananas, apples, pears), vegetables (carrots, peas, avocadoes, squash, sweet potatoes).  The most important thing to remember is to introduce one food at a time and allow three days of eating that food before introducing another food.  This helps to cut down on food allergies and alerts you to the possibility of your child being allergic to a food.  If you want to make batches of food and freeze them, all you need is some ice cube trays from the dollar store.  Frozen food cubes are the perfect size for baby and can be easily thawed and used.  I use my food up within a month but it can be stored longer like up to 3-6 months.  So if you are currently pregnant, or have a newborn you could start preparing some now and store it in your freezer so it is ready when baby is old enough to start eating.  I sell helpful tips and recipes on ebay so that all moms can see how easy it is to give their baby the best.  Also it is very economical.  Costs a lot less to make baby food then to buy the premade stuff in the jars.  Look at my auctions my seller name is srawlings.
