Here is a very simple way of making aqua regia acid for dissolving and refining gold. Take 1 quart of regular muratic acid and add 1 cup of sodium nitrate. Stir in using a wood or glass rod. The sodium nitrate may take a while to dissolve in, but it will, just wait.

When I do it this way, I put my gold items into a small plastic bucket, add the acid and then the sodium nitrate. After that, I turn a 5 gallon plastic bucket over that and put a heavy stone holding the top bucket down. The upside down bucket acts to hold in the red vapors so no one has to get a whiff!!!

Letting this sit overnight, you will find the gold being dissolved and ready for the next steps for recovering your gold mud or other metals.

REMEMBER THIS; NO MORE THAN 140 grams of TOTAL METAL PER QUART OF ACID!!!!
