If you have any old hard drives sitting around, or an old computer, put them to use.  Get an enclosure off eBay or just a cable to connect that old hard drive to your computer via USB cable.  Some have double USB cables for power and others plug into an AC outlet, both work fine.  Some have firewire or USB2.0 which is faster thatn standard USB, just be sure your computer supports those plug ins.  If you have windows XP it will recognize the drive right when you plug it in and you can take it in and out at any time (Hot Swap)  Other operating Systems might be different and require a driver, but that isn't too hard to find.
