Become An Ebay Powerseller & Expert

There are many ebooks out there promising  information on how you can become an ebay powerseller overnight, or how you can garner 100 positive feedbacks selling 1 cent or 99 cent ebooks.  But, as you can guess, they really don't work as promised.

What I am going to show you here is a five week project that will not only put you on the road to becoming an ebay powerseller, but will also make you an expert in your chosen field of sales.

For the purpose of this tutorial we are going to assume you are a dealer of vintage baseball cards.

Week 1 - Set Up Your Ebay Seller Account

This week is all about getting prepared.  Set up your ebay seller account.  Be sure to pick out a name that describes your business - Vintage Sports Cards, Sports Memorabilia Stop, Fifties Topps.  Whatever you choose, make the name memorable and easy to remember.  Set up a paypal seller account.  Determine a minimum of five to ten categories you want to specialize in.

Search your category to determine who your competition is.  Get out your handy dandy notebook, and start writing.  What are the competition's ebay seller id's?  What kind of product are they selling?  Is their product graded, or are they selling filler cards?  How many feedbacks do they have, and are they quality feedback?  Read through their feedback comments to get clues as to why customers are buying from these guys.  How much are they charging for shipping?  Do they ship first class, priority mail, at what dollar amounts do they require insurance?  What kind and quality of pictures do they use?  Are the pictures close-ups?  Are they group pictures, where you really can't make out single items?

Buy five or ten small items from these sellers to start building your feedback.  Record how long it takes to receive your items?  How well they are packaged?  and, how much they actually paid for shipping?

Week 2 - Start Becoming An Expert

No selling this week.  Go back to week one, and look at those categories you chose to specialize in.  This week you are going to write five Ebay Guides.  It's time to dazzle the ebay world with your intelligence.  Write about particular cards - Like variations in Mickey Mantle Rookie Cards - Buying vintage wax packs - Putting together a Fifties Topps set - or Bargain shopping at Sports Card Shows.

This week is all about making you an expert in your field.  The writing doesn't have to be top quality, or anything fancy.  It just needs to be informative.  The more tips you can share on collecting, storing, or grading old cards - the more of an expert you will be perceived.

Buy five more items from your competition to keep building your feedback, and checking them out.

Week 3 - Share Your Knowledge

  No selling this week.

Continue writing guides.  Your goal this week is to add at least five more guides to your collection.  If you need ideas look at the cards you are going to sell.  You can focus on individual cards or players.  Talk about the sets, and any variations in them.  There are thousands of people who want to read this info.  If your at a loss for topics, write about your Hank Aaron or Ernie Banks Cards.  Talk about grading cards, and put pictures of various cards in there showing the different conditions.

Remember you are proving to the ebay world that you know your topic inside out, and that you are their guy to buy from.  Anyone can sell a baseball card.  You are sharing your knowledge and expertise with every sale.

Buy five more cards to build your feedback, and continue checking out your competition.

Week 4 - Preparing to Sell

No selling this week.  But we're getting real close.

This week you're going to write five more guides, and buy five more cards to continue building your feedback.

You are also going to start scanning or taking pictures of the first batch of cards you are going to list.  By now you should know the kind, and quality of pictures you want to include.  Get them all ready.  You also want to start crafting your auction descriptions.  What standard information are you going to include in all of your auctions.  Start putting together your selling and return policies.  What are you going to say about individual cards.  How much are you going to charge for shipping.

Week 5 - Start Selling

This is the week you have been wakiting for.  Start listing your auctions.  You should have at least twenty to twenty-five feedbacks.  And, if you have written all of your guides you should be a top 5,000 or 10,000 reviewer.  You are a responsible ebay community member, and an expert in your field...and, you haven't made a single sale yet.  Think how good it will be once you get the ball rolling with a steady stream of sales.

How much easier does it get?

Ramping up your sales

You are well on your way to becoming a respectable powerseller.  But, never forget how you got started.  Keep doing your research, and keep close tabs on your competition for new trends and pricing developments.  Keep writing those guides - Your goal is to become a top 100 or 1000 reviewer.  It will drive buyers to your site.

Have fun selling.
