There are many sellers on ebay offering instuctions for how to make hair bows. If you have decided you want to make hair bows then your next question is most likely going to be which set of instructions should I get? I had the same question! After buying more than 10 different sets of hair bow instructions I have learned many things from many unique sellers, but ultimately it is up to you to practice, practice practice if you are going to make bows you can send your kids out of the house in! :)
I do not recommend buying more than 1 or 2 sets of instructions, the information is obviously fairly repetitive and unfortunately I am not convinced that all instruction sellers want you to succeed. After all they are telling you what you need to know to become their competition if you decided to sell bows yourself. Search very carefully for the information you feel will best fit your needs, but realize that your bows will not look like those of a particular seller because you bought instructions from them, ultimately it is up to you to develop your technique.
There are many sellers out there offering instructions to make hairbows. If you are considering instructions please feel free to send me an email. I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or business by posting which instructions I found helpful and which ones I didn't but I would be happy to help you through email. Pleasee send your e-mail address if you are requesting help in choosing a guide, ebay only allows a set number of charecters for a response and this information exceeds that amount.
My 6 year old LOVES her hair bows and will not leave the house with out them. There is no way I could afford to buy a set of bows for every outfit so it made sense to make them myself.
The next step in my bow making quest was to gather all the tools I would need. This can be a bit of a problem because the expense involved in gathering all your equipment will probably be more than it would cost to buy the bows already made from established sellers.
If you were to buy your ribbon in local craft stores it will cost much more than if you were to buy your ribbon on line. I bought different ribbon to match one outfit each for my two daughters and walked out spending $40.00. It would be to your benefit to find a seller who sells ribbon "by the yard" when you are getting started. Then you can figure out what you need to make 1 bow or 1 set rather than buying quantities greater than you need. I try to buy my ribbon at an average cost of $0.25 a yard for solid colors and about $0.50 a yard for prints.
Your instruction book will let you know what else you will need to make your bows, and most of them include a supplier list of where to get the best prices. I did additional research on my own and found additional suppliers that would meet my needs for prices that were just as good, but ultimately for the time spent I am not so sure I was any better off on my own than sticking with the suggested suppliers.
How do you know if you are ready to sell hairbows? I highly recommend that you start small and locally if you have hopes of selling your hairbows. Take your kids out wearing bows you have made and see what people think. My daughters get comments on their bows everytime we leave the house. The only bows I have sold have been to a local boutique and based on how well received the bows are locally you can decide whether you are ready to sell on ebay or online. My advice is to bring your fan base with you! It is not inexpensive to keep an online store running and if your loyal customers can help you get started while you build an expanded base of customers this will help you financially as well and keep your confidence boosted. The hairbow market for sellers is fairly saturated right now and it can be discouraging but keep plugging along!
I hope the information in this guide will be helpful, to any other bow makers out there please remember there is much unique talent out there and we can all succeed together! If there is anything you hoped to find in this guide that wasn't addressed, I'd love to hear from you. Just send me an e-mail.
In closing make sure you sign up for the local craft stores mailing list so you can get coupons and PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Good luck and I wish you much success with your new endeavor!
