Hello, I have chosen to try to write a quick and easy guide to maintaining your cingular phone. As many cingular wireless users may have experienced, this particular company does indeed hold up to its formidable claims of being the network with the "fewest dropped calls". However, at least with my cingular experience, my personal conversations, though rarely dropped, consisted mostly of a crackling, static filled "hello, are you there?" experience, or just moments of complete silence till the phone magically starts working again! Ack, the frustration! Even worse, calls just simply aren't received, and friends wonder why you never answer your phone! Although there are many factors that may contribute to this inconsistency, I was able to speak to a phone technician, and get some tips that I was astounded to find were never shared with me when I bought the phone. Basically, here's how it works: especially with newer and more popular phones (read: the razr v3!) cingular sends, sometimes every day, updates to the phone. The updates may be downloaded throughout the day, but they cannot install themselves onto your phone until it is power-cycled (just turning it off, then back on again). To keep your phone running at its best, simply power it off, wait 30 seconds (at minimum, it can be more), then turn it back on. Do this at least once every three days, and enjoy getting phone calls again. For those of you whom, like myself, never power off their phones, if you haven't done this in a while, you should 1) remove your phones' battery. 2) wait a full minute. 3) put the battery back in, and turn it on. After that, you can simply power cycle every three days (don't bother removing the battery), and you're set to go!! I hope this review helped all you frustrated cingular users out there! Note: the author does not possess any technical experience, nor is he in any way related to phone sales or repair. I'm not claiming some miracle fix here, folks! This is simply what was explained to me by some guy in a cingular store, and I found that it immediately allowed all phone calls to be received, and even marginally improved reception. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I hope it works for you! -Alex
