We are Mac users and the idea of using a USB Dongle as a phone device sounded like an easy way to get rid of the house phone and cell phone bills.
The MagicJack is compatible with your Mac. It asks you to download the drivers via a PC. My husband went and hunted down my MIL's PC and downloaded the drivers to her computer and then brought them on over to his desktop. It was a long and cumbersome process. He learned that the interface for Windows and Mac are totally different.
I ignored the rules and plugged it straight into my Macbook. After about 25 seconds it lit up on my desktop. Hooray Me! Next I downloaded the driver update. This update is for the MagicJack. It is not for your Mac.
I waited till it let me know the download was complete. Next I plugged in a phone.
It took about 2 minutes to get through the registration and choose a phone number. The selection of numbers was kinda sparse.I chose a number in Brooklyn. I live in Arkansas. Now when I call folks they wonder who is calling them from NY!
Magic Jack works much better than I thought. A few caveats.
Satellite Internet works with much static.
Cable works great.
If you have DSL,then you have a working phone line so why a Magicjack? I guess if your snatching it from the air, or at work that would make sense but don't buy a Magicjack for home if your home service is your paid for DSL Line.
I like being wireless. It works just great.
I do wish they had a small phone device available that I could use like Skype.
