This guide is a "how to" on being able to distinguish Summer Magic from normal Revised, and why Summer Magic exists.

Why does it exist? What exactly is it?

Summer Magic exists because the first print run of Revised had numerous errors. For example, the Serendib Efreet had the wrong picture and border color. The picture used was that of Ifh-Bifh Efreet. Another problem with Revised was that the colors looked washed out, almost faded or dull. Plateau had the wrong artists name on it. Another complaint that was becoming common among "concerned parents" was the use of "satanic" symbolism. The use of such symbols also made it difficult for Wizards of the Coast to do business with China was far as Magic was concerend. At the time, China's laws did not allow such images on any products inside the country.

But what is Summer Magic? Because of these prevalent issues, WoTC decided to do a second print run of Revised. They code named it Edgar (this becomes important later on). WoTC tried another print run to fix these issues. They did fix them, but more problems did arise however. Serendib Efreet and Plateau never had the artists name changed, the colors on some cards were too dark, and Hurricane had the wrong border color.

Because of these issues, the initial print run, which consisted of only booster boxes, was destroyed. A few booster boxes did survive and made it out into the hands of the public. A booster pack of Summer Magic has a big green letter E stamped on it.

Typically, booster pack will sell around $4000 - $6000 U.S. It is said that the blue bordered hurricane is the most sought after card in Summer Magic.

So how does one distinguish a Summer Magic card from a normal Revised card? A summer magic card will look like a fourth Edition card, however the 1994 copyright is down on the bottom of the card. Also, look for the slanted letter T inside of a white circle, which was the symbol used to denote that "tapping" was required to use the cards ability, instead of the now common day curved arrow.
