Don't be fooled...
...by dishonest and misinformed sellers and collectors or stores. Scaling has existed for a very long time in the model world. Scale is a guide to the relative size of an object compared to what a full sized equivalent would be, and defines the measurement of the scale. Without getting overly complicated, it is simple to say that all objects in the same scale will be properly sized to all other objects that share that scale (a 1/60 scaled tank is proportionately the same size as a 1/60 scaled car, and this should be apparent in the models). That being said, many sellers of late are listing glaring inacurate or down right false scales for their Macross toys and collectibles. With some, this may be a simple error, but with others I have contacted and asked to fix the error, it is clear from their responses that it is intententional, as they tried to con me with a really pathetic line about new releases, etc.
Here's the Deal-
1/60 scale is 1/60 scale, period!
1/48 Scale is 1/48 Scale, period!
A Valkyrie VF-1S is a Valkyrie VF-1S, Period!
All of the Valkyrie VF-1 Series (A, J, S) are the same relative size to one another, and so toys and models of the same scale should match between the crafts. Other valkyries are notably larger or smaller in actual schematics and designer layouts, and so they may or may not match other craft and models of the same scale (A Sturmvogel at 1/60 should be significantly larger than a VF-1 at 1-60).
When purchasing any model or toy Valkyrie keep this in mind. I recommend visiting the manufacturer homepages to verify scales and values as well, as many disreputable businesses are vastly overcharging the US collectors!
A 1/60 scale VF-1 Will NEVER be the same size as a 1/48 VF-1!
I can not emphasize this enough. You will see many auctions runnin right now with claims of this exact fact. IT IS FALSE! If you ask retailers or sellers, they will try to snow you with comments about how it is the NEW 1/60, or a Re-Release, or some similar claim. It really does not matter, as 1/60 is 1/60, and a Vf-1 is a Vf-1.
If you are unsure of which size your kits or collections should be, here are some of the more common scales by manufacturer:
Yamato VF-1 Series: Available in both 1/60 and 1/48 (two different series)
Yamato Macross Plus: Including the VF-11, VF-22, and VF-19 average at 1/72
Bandai VF-1 Hi-Metal and Re-release: 1/55
Toynami Master Grade: 1/55
Again, I emphasize, research your product or collectible. Know what you are buying. Confirm manufacturers. When in doubt ask questions. If a seller ever gives you information that contradicts the manufacturer or other reputable resources you have checked, the seller is lying. It is an unfortunate reality, but lately it is more and more common on Ebay.
There are a number of places where artwork and visual Size Comparison charts for the different Valkyries and Macross mecha can be found. I recommend tracking these down and using them as reference. Also, avoid knock-offs and cheap counterfeits that many sellers try to pass off as the real deal. A product described as "Like Yamato's 1/60" or "Similar to Bandai's 1/55" is not the same as a Yamato or Bandai. Ask for pictures, ask for details, ask to see shots of the actual product and packaging, and not some "Stock Image" that can be found on dozens of websites.
Let's put dishonest sellers and stores out of business and chase them off ebay!
