If you are new with macrame, I recommend that you do a little practice knotting before starting with your projects or when trying new knots. Beginners are always surprise how quickly and easily they learn the main knots. The secret to having even knot is the tension and with a little practice you will be able to determine the proper tension to place on the cord so your knots are not too tight or too loose .
The first reason Macrame has been so popular for so many years and what makes it so easy is that it requires a few supplies.
You only need cord, a holding device (like rings, bar or drift wood), beads, pins, scissors, rubber bands, a ruler or measuring tape, pots and glue (when needed). Yes, that's all you need!! Simple as that.!
You can also add to your supplies (but is not necessary) a knotting board or a loom , wich is preferred by some people when working in small projects such as bracelets, necklaces, anklets, keychains, etc.
Let's talk a little bit about cords:
You can use any type of cords as long as it is not too stiff or stretchy, just feel it and be sure it is soft enough to work with. When the cord is too hard then your knots will be uneven and it will be very difficult to use.
Feel free and use your imagination, combine different types of cords together to add some texture and color to your projects and you will get very unique and pretty pieces. You can even use ribbon!! Good Luck!!
