WHEN YOU WANT TO BUY A MOTHER BOARD ON EBAY FOLLOW THESE STEPS FIRST!....
My company was in need of a mother board so we went shopping on Ebay....
After 1 was paid for and received we found that it was an OPEN BOX RETURN purchased from: NEW EGG dot COM.
"So we did a little investigating on our own before ("we even knew this") by doing the following!"
Before you buy any mother board on ebay ask the seller to photograph the S/N of the box and the motherboard and post that picture in his or her auction. Don"t have the seller email this to you! Have them post PROOF in his or her auction(s)!
Next contact the MFG of the mother board or in most cases NEW EGG dot COM and find out 2 things.
1. call the MFG and ask if this is a new item that has not been registered.
1.(b). Ask "who did you ship this mother board too"?. (Get The Distributors Name!)
2. Call the distributor directly, i.e. NEW EGG dot COM or (other company) and give the customer service rep the S/N of the motherboard.
ask them to trace that S/N in thier present or past sales inventory.
They will tell you if it was shipped out of thier warehouse in the past (as "new" or a "open box return" or a "recertified" motherboard.)
They can also tell you who bought it and when. How much they paid and so forth....
DONT GET TAKEN LIKE WE "ALMOST" DID!!!
We picked up a "LISTED AS BRAND NEW" mother board on ebay... It showed up with the factory anti-static tape missing on the
board bag... NOTE: ALL new motherboards from any factory will have a seal on the motherboard bag! If this is missing or has signs that the tape seal has been broken you have an "OPEN BOX ITEM"!!
So.. when we called NewEgg and gave them the S/N they informed us of the buyers name who had purchased it....
THIS SELLER THEN SOLD IT ON EBAY AS BRAND NEW! FRAUD! And is still selling his used items as "NEW"!!
Don't get taken by these simple minded scam artists! Do your homework and out smart them LIKE WE DID!...
The seller of the item we bought was cought "RED HANDED" and thru patient and fact founded email's "He folded his cards" and gave us a full refund including the $10.00 EXTRA packing charge he forced us to pay off of the Ebay site!...
Total saved to us?....$138.00
Be bold! It's your money! And you work hard for it!
Shop Smart by using these simple tips when buying any computer motherboard on ebay!
We had one seller tell us in December 2007, that 9 out of 10 mothers boards sold on ebay are either
Burned up or Returns of some kind... "BUT NEVER NEW"......
Once you know... you NEWEGG in some cases!
WE HOPE THIS HELPS ONE PERSON FROM GOING THRU THIS KIND OF "HIGH TECH" SCAM with Motherboards!!
