This guide is dedicated to the memory of the ultimate Marx enthusiast and HO authority: my best friend Big Al Glenz. Thank you for all your help and knowledge.       (And thanks for the updates AL O ! )

The LOUIS MARX H0 TRAIN Set

Marx started its H0 line just in time for Christmas in 1957. These units were intended to be affordable toys for everyday play use. Most of these trains bear the MarX CIRCLE X and USA production markings, with some items also being produced in Hong Kong, Japan, and parts from Germany. Sears and Wards sold the first sets. The early H0 sets were the Santa FE f7 groupings and  New York Central Hudson consists. Early HO engines and trains were realistic, yet toylike enough in appearance to win the hearts of children. Marx would also produce many accessories to compliment their train line, signs and billboards, terminals and stations, figures and loaders, towers and poles.  These were fun items that sparked the imagination of youngsters.

Marx produced quite a number of sets of Diesels and Steamers and these are highly prized by todays Marx Collectors. Much of Marx HO has an O scale counterpart, which makes it most apparent that Marx modeled some of its HO after its 0 or 027 line. There are beautiful Streamlined Passenger sets, but it is the huge variety of nice looking and prized HO freight cars that are extra interesting! The Rocket Launcher is one that immediately comes to mind with its red, white and blue color scheme. Hydrocarbon Rocket Tankers in various colors, Flats with Boats, Automobiles, Bulldozers, Burlington Truck and Trailers, Spotlights, Reels, Containers, Wreckers, Cranes, Boxcars, Reefers, Standard Cabooses and the Work style and a lot more to spark a craving for Marx HO.

I think this line is quite overlooked by most, but it sure is fun for us that enjoy Marx !

What about a Jolly Green Giant Valley Railroad Set ?

Yes, MarX made one of those too !

HO HO HO !

I believe the Marx branded line ended in 1974, after the sellout of the Marx toy company. However the Marx HO style train line still continues on with production by Model Power !
