MAKE OFFER listings can provide good visibility to ATTRACT BUYERS to fixed prices store listings. Plus reasonable BUYERS get an opportunity to HAGGLE SELLERS for a lower price. Is everyone is happy? - NOT!
Both parties need to be aware of the enhanced potential for misunderstandings in this process.
Typically in a normal auction listing or "buy it now" sale, the seller lists the sale "terms" in the listing and the buyer either accepts the terms or walks. However in "MAKE OFFER" sales, the buyer can make an offer or a counter offer with conflicting terms in the "terms" dialog box. For example the seller has a shipping cost of 15.00. The buyer can "counter" a best offer price AND offer "shipping included" as part of the counter. The opportunity for terms and counter terms to be negotiated and misunderstood can be mindboggling. All this boils down to lots more potential problems and emotional stress for a simple sale.
We recommend clearly stating only SIMPLE counter make offer/counteroffer terms in the dialog box. In fact it may be prudent to consider accepting the sellers terms in the listing and just adjust your price accordingly. If the seller has other unreasonable terms...then just move on...If you want free shipping...reduce your Best Offer Price further by the requested shipping cost. Keep it simple and have fun!
In this way messy amateur legalese can be avoided and the fun of buying an item for your price based on the sellers terms can be realized. GOOD LUCK!
