Louis Verdad- A Guide to Louis Verdad & Fashion
Louis Verdad is a fashion designer revered by the rich and glamorous. His clothing is inspired by the styles of the ‘30s and ‘40s, but often has a modern, fun, even slightly trashy-glam twist that makes it a favorite of celebrities who like to push the envelope on the red carpet. Remember the infamous Madonna and Britney Spears kiss at the MTV VMAs? Madonna was wearing a Verdad suit for that performance.
But Louis Verdad is not a designer of costume couture. Nominee Maria Bello's cream satin column gown at the Golden Globes was a Verdad and topped most Best Dressed lists in the press. The always elegant Cate Blanchett also turned to Verdad when she wanted to break out of the mold a bit. He responded with a pair of cream and brown tweed hot pants, trench coat, and thigh-high boots with matching fishnets.
You'll find a lot of masculine elements in Louis Verdad fashion. The silhouettes are all very feminine, but pinstripe suits, tailed white button-downs, and even ties appear in many of his runway shows. Other attributes of the Verdad signature style are exaggerated shoulders, nipped waists, and covered buttons.
Louis Verdad also designs Junior's clothing, eveningwear, loungewear, and plus -ize clothing. While many of Verdad's designs employ masculine elements, tops such as his evening camisole offer an elegant and feminine appearance, appropriate both in the office and out on the dance floor. Among the other tops in Louis Verdad's collection are poplin bustiers, silk charmeuse wrap tanks, and chiffon blouses, offering a casual yet sophisticated appearance.
