This series,.probably one of The best in years....approximately 2 and 1/4 inch tall and hand painted, All with moveable body parts and seperate weapons. I Am a Toy Soldier Collector and have been collecting since the 60's. What a great series....over 120 figures, including beasts and siege weapons. a great helms Deep Playset, which has become very hard to find ,and when You do find it...it gos pretty high.
Drawbacks, the prices...from walmart to toys R Us the 3 packs ran from 8.99 to 14.99, and if You where a good early hunter, You could tag the new sets....then there where some unscrupulous dealers that bought them and sold them for twice as much if not more...for Instance a Hobby type store selling the Mouth Of sauron mounted figure for 29.99 when across the street Target had it for 6.99 where...I can't say (Nanuet, NY) lol.
alas wave 8, was ready too go and I saved the Toy review page...some great figures.... Theodan on Horseback during The Warg Attack , Lurtz with Wounded Boromir Hobbit with seeing orb, Prolouge Elve..among others.....The orc landing Craft, orc catapult eagle rescue and treebeard playsets...all pretty neat.
Mybe with The Hobbit bieng in pre-production an interest will peak on these great toys again.
drawbacks once again...the price was a bit much for younger kids to appreciate them, to actually build a decent army would cost a fortune....and The small pieces lost and broke easily.... But for the Older collector they where just great..... another reason the series ended abruptly....i believe playalong toys did not want to renew the license agreement....ahhh what a loss...
other neat set that came and went The Aliens series...another badly marketed item.....Planned where added figures and playsets and a Predator series......what happened.....?
thanks for listening not as grat as the review ahead of mine...but i had to add my 2 cents.........
