Simply take the example of a rough service bulb meant for a mechanic's trouble light (they are rated at 130 VAC but are run at 120 VAC and their filaments are heavily supported)...

Never move or even adjust a lamphead while the modeling light is on. Allow at least 5 seconds for it to cool.

Try not to run the modeling light on full. Just dim it down a little bit and bulb life will be greatly increased!

If you touch the modeling lamp's glass portion make sure that you wipe it off (alcohol or glass cleaner preferred... or just breathe on it and use a Kleenex or shirt tail, this will suffice in a pinch) as the oil from your fingers may cause the glass to bubble.

To be safe, handle modeling lights with gloves, goggles and respect!

Happy shooting!
