Most sellers think that a listing with intense graphics, borders and all sorts of other crap will attract more buyers.
In certain cases, that is correct. Extremely high end, or frivolous items will probably be enhanced with that kind of listing. A brand new Ferrari F1 would be a good example. If a potential buyer can afford to drop $1 million for a car, then it is a good bet that they have a high speed connection.
Your rusty, old piece of "Highly Collectable Vintage Tooling or Whatever" or your unique "Vintage Grand Funk Psychadelic Lunch Menu" will not.
There are still quite a few buyers who use dial up, and they do not want to wait 5 minutes for you listing to load, with all of it's non-essential crap. I have heard this from MANY buyers.
Keep your listing simple. Describe the item, the quantity, the shipping, the condition, the warranty, and the return policy (or lack of such things). Have pictures that are well sized and well taken. One clear picture is WAY better then 3 or 4 fuzzy dark pictures.
Use the gallery option when listing. It is worth the $0.35 extra.
Skip the 4 page long liability crap, simply state that it is sold AS-IS, WHERE-IS. If the buyer ends up being a tool, dealing with them is all part of being in business. That, and then block the SOB from ever bidding on your auctions again.
In other words, follow the old KISS mantra: Keep It Simple, Stupid.
