Most collectors of miniatures are very careful about buying items that are in the correct size scale. They want to know exactly how big (or small) an item is, to be sure it will match the scale of the other pieces in their collection. One piece in the wrong scale can detract from an entire miniature display.
Here are two things you can do to provide buyers with all the information they need to decide whether your item is the right size for them:
1. Carefully measure the dimensions of the items, down to 32nds of an inch, and include the measurements in the item description. Measure and list length, width and height.
2. In the listing photo, display an item that will let the viewer see how your miniature compares in size to something they have on hand, such as a coin or a ruler's edge. I use a ruler, usually placing it along the bottom of the picture so that the numbers are visible close to the item I'm selling.
Here is a photo showing how to use a ruler to provide accurate size and scale information. These are tiny dog treats for a dollhouse setting:
I know these guidelines work, because buyers tell me it is very helpful to have this information when deciding whether to buy.
